Rates & Insurance for Counseling Services

*Please scroll down for Private Pay Rates that include a substantial discount!
Rates are as follows for any Third Party Payer:

30 minute session - $90
45 minute session - $110
60 minute session - $135
beyond 60 minutes - add $33 per 15 minutes

Sessions beyond 60 minutes: add $33 (per 15 minutes),
i.e. a 75 minute session would be $168.

*Private pay clients receive a substantial discount for paying in full at each session and not carrying a balance, which negates the necessity of any billing.  Rates reflecting the discount for Private Pay are listed below:

30 minute session - $65
45 minute session - $80
60 minute session - $95
beyond 60 minutes:  add $23 (per 15 minutes),
i.e., 75 minute session would be $118

Payment in full is required up front each session.  If a client does not have the money for a particular session, they should call as soon as possible, and within at least 4 hours of their appointment time, to avoid a failed to keep or cancellation fee of $40, and to reschedule for a later date.

Insurance
Due to difficulty collecting from insurance companies, I am not currently accepting insurance.

However, you still may be able to be partially reimbursed by your insurance company.  To find out, you would want to check your insurance plan for mental health benefits provided to you for out of network providers.  Sometimes these benefits are subject to a deductible and sometimes not.  Also, percentages of reimbursement vary among different insurance companies and plans.  Many times the percentage you would be required to pay for an out-of-network provider is only slightly higher than the co-pay required for an in-network provider. You would still be required to pay for your services in full at each session and would need to submit your own claims for reimbursement.  I will be happy to provide you with the information you need to submit your claims.

Whether in network or out of network, services may be covered in full or in part by your health insurance or employee benefit plan. Please check your coverage carefully by asking the following questions:

  • Do I have mental health insurance benefits?
  • Are mental health services subject to a deductible?  If so, what is my deductible and has it been met?
  • Is there a separate deductible for out of network and if so, what is it?
  • Is there a limited number of sessions per year covered by my health insurance?
  • Is there a co-pay per therapy session?
  • If not a co-pay, what is the percentage covered per session?
  • Is approval required from my primary care physician?

Other considerations
Sometimes your employer will offer some kind of Flexible Spending Account (sometimes referred to as a medical expense FSA, medical FSA, or health FSA) that allows you to have money deducted from your pay check pre-tax, that you may use for medical expenses.  These benefits can usually be utilized to pay for or reimburse you for counseling services.

Confidentiality considerations
In order to utilize insurance or other third parties for reimbursement, the client must agree to release some private information necessary for billing.  For that reason, some people choose not to use their insurance benefits or flex spending account even when they are available to them, to ensure greater privacy.  This is a very individual and personal decision and can be discussed with the counselor prior to the first session or any time after, to discuss pros and cons of utilizing a third party for reimbursement. For some, the benefits of having a lower out of pocket fee far outweighs the issue of decreased privacy, while others would rather pay a higher fee out of pocket and have increased confidentiality.  In all cases, your privacy is protected as much as possible.  Even with permission and the required signed release of information, only the information that is absolutely necessary for reimbursement, is released.

Payment
Cash or check are accepted for payment.

Cancellation Policy
If you do not show up or call to reschedule your therapy appointment, with at least 4 hours notice, you will be charged a $35 fee due before or at your next session.  This applies to both private pay and insurance clients, even if the $35 fee is greater than your required co-pay.
